At 10 p.m. Nov. 9, police responded to the A&E Motel in Lexington Park for a disturbance and assault in a motel room. Upon arriving officers located the suspect, Alan Kurtis Kohut, 27 of Ridge, in the room with the victim Thomas Alvin Campbell Sr., whom was lying on the floor with obvious head and facial injuries. Kohut threw items out of the room to keep onlookers and police at bay but he was taken into custody. Police determined that he had repeatedly beaten and kicked the victim in the head and face in an attempt to kill him, after the victim refused to give him money. Kohut was charged by BCI detectives with Attempted First Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, and Attempted Robbery. He was incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Campbell was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with serious head and facial injuries.
