12/8/2010 Chingville Accident with Fly Out : On December 8, 2010 at 2354 hours the Valley Lee and Bay District Volunteers were alerted with numerous EMS units to the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Chingville Road for the MVA with Entrapment. Initial reports were that there was nobody in the vehicle however when the police arrived they found a subject trapped. Chief 6, Rescue Engine 62 and Squad 3 all responded at dispatch and Chief 6 arrived on the scene at 2359 hours confirming one trapped and after a quick assessment he requested a Helicopter Category A Priority 1 and established the Command. Rescue Engine 62 and Squad 3 arrived at 0002 hours and the crews went to work, Engine 62 pulled the protection line and secured Power to the vehicle and Squad 3 stabilized the vehicle and started extricating the patient. Squad 3 along with Rescue Engine 62 removed the Driver's Door and initially did a Roof Flap but then later removed the Roof of the vehicle for better patient access. The Extrication of the patient was completed the extrication 15 minutes after arrival and the patient was packaged and then transported to the Landing Zone where Engine 61 was setup with Trooper 7. 10/12/2010 Accident at 235 & Rt 4 : The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12 in the 23100 block of Three Notch Road in the southbound lanes of Route 235 just north of Route 4. Four vehicles were involved to include a GMC Yukon, a Toyota Corolla, a Honda Odyssey and a white GMC Sierra. At least three people were transported to St. Mary's Hospital for their injuries. 10/1/2010 Hazmat at Trailer Park : On Friday, Oct. 1, in the mid-afternoon, while responding to complaints of Langley Trailer Park neighborhood residents about the county's emergency notification system during the storm, county officials inspected the property and discovered that some residences were unsafe to inhabit. In addition to the flood-damaged homes, the elevated water levels disturbed, moved, overturned or otherwise caused a fuel tank leak resulting in a hazardous waste condition. Hazmat teams were called in to clean up the area while some residents were evacuated and forced to leave their condemned homes. According to St. Mary's County Public Information Officer, Karen Everett, some of these residents were upset that the County didn't do a better job of notifying them about the flood dangers. "One resident thought that because the road had been reopened, that the Flash Flood Watch was lifted as well. That was not the case and early this morning the flood waters rose and caused severe damage to some homes," said Everett. 9/27/2010 Roll Over on Hermanville : Rescue crews responded to report of an accident along Hermanville Road and Sewell Road around 9:40 a.m. Sept. 27. Crews arrived on the scene to discover a single vehicle overturned on its side. A passerby had stopped at the accident scene and was able to pull the female driver from her GMC Envoy after kicking in the window. 9/25/2010 Head on at Chancellors and St Georges : Rescue crews repsonded to the 22000 block of Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills for report of an accident with injuries on Saturday, Sept. 25 around 2:40 a.m.. Upon arrival, crews discovered a Mercury Tracer and a Jeep Grand Cherokee had collided head on. The driver of the Mercury was transported by ambulance to the MSP hanger where he was then flown to MedStar as a result of his injuries. 9/20/2010 Five Vehicle Parking Lot Pile-up : Authorities in St. Mary's County are investigating the cause of a five vehicle pile-up in the parking lot of the PNC Bank and Mark's Electronics along the 22600 block of Three Notch Road in California shortly before 5 p.m. on Sept. 20. Rescue crews arrived on the scene to discover several vehicles involved in a multi-car pileup. According to witnesses on the scene, prior to the crash the driver of a Toyota Tundra took off at a high acceleration speed, spinning tires and as a result t-boned a red Chevrolet Impala. After striking the Impala, the driver of the Tundra changed his direction of travel and proceeded thru the parking lot striking a white Chevy Blazer causing severe damage to the vehicle. After striking the Blazer, the Tundra then struck a Ford Pickup and a Dodge Pickup. Witnesses say throughout this incident, the driver continued to spin tires the entire time until his vehicle came to a rest. The driver of the Tundra was transported to St. Mary's Hospital. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash or if a medical emergency took place. 8/31/2010 Drunk Driver Hits a Tree : Authorities in St. Mary's County are investigating a serious single vehicle accident in Medley's Neck part of Leonardtown. Rescue crews responded to the 20900 block of Whirlwind Road around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31 for report of a vehicle into a tree. Upon arrival, a four door Honda Accord with a single occupant that had left the roadway and struck a group of trees. The driver, identified at Craig Michael Ringler, 29 of Mechanicsville, was operating the vehicle on a suspended license. The suspended driver admitted to reaching for his cell phone when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Ringler was flown out by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to Prince George's Shock Trauma for his injuries. 1/29/2010 High Speed Chase Turns Fatal : (Hollywood, MD) – Maryland State Police continue their investigation into a fatal crash involving the driver of a pickup truck who sped away from troopers on a routine traffic stop. The deceased is identified as Francis X. Chase, Jr., 33, of the 43000-block of Palamino Drive in Hollywood, Maryland. Chase was a passenger in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver is identified as Tyrone D. Butler, 39, of the 23000-block of Sugar Maple Court in California, Maryland. He was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s County Shock Trauma with non life threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates that around 1:30 p.m. today, a trooper assigned to the Leonardtown Barracks stopped Butler, the driver of a white 1995 Dodge pickup truck for speeding on Mervell Dean Road in Hollywood. When asked, Butler was unable to provide proper identification, but did provide a name. The name given to the trooper was found to be of an individual with a suspended license. Subsequently, the trooper called for backup assistance to initiate the arrest of the driver. Once backup arrived, both state troopers approached the vehicle. When asked to step out of the vehicle, Butler fled the scene initiating the pursuit on to State Route 235. Butler led police on a 2.5 mile pursuit until Butler turned abruptly onto Vista Road and then into a private driveway, crashing into two trees where the vehicle came to rest. Butler was apprehended as he exited the vehicle. Emergency personnel immediately rendered first aid at the scene. Butler was flown to Prince George’s County Shock Trauma Center. Troopers, along with paramedics from Advanced Life Support, attempted life saving measures on the passenger, Chase. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Maryland State Police CRASH Team is on the scene conducting the investigation. The Maryland State Police Aviation Command, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash. No charges have been placed at this time. Maryland State Police are consulting with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney as the investigation continues.

1/25/2010 Roll Over at 235 and Airport View Dr : Company 7 (Hollywood) and Company 79 (Hollywood Rescue) along with Company 39 (Lexington Park Rescue) were dispatched on the initial call for the two vehicle collision with one over turned and one on fire. Well let me tell you that gets the adrenaline pumping on any firefighter and emergency services person and squad 7 marked up right away fully staffed. The medic unit had been dispatched and arrived on the scene almost right away along with our Lieut. 9 Mark Warren who works near by. By this time Fireboard had dispatched an additional squad due to the severity of the crash. Chief 7A (Doug Insley) had marked up as responding and Lt. 9 advised both him and the squad from 7 that there was no fire but heavy entrapment in one vehicle. Squad 7 (The Beast) arrived right after that under the command of Capt. Ricky Brady and the firefighters from the nuthouse went right to work on the car with the subject trapped. Man they came off that piece with everyone carrying a tool and it looked like an octopus with all the lines stretched to the different tools. While they were working with Capt. Brady holding operations and the A-Chief with the command squad 3 arrived under the command of firefighter Carroll and piled off with all the cutters and under the direction of the A-Chief took the other side of the car. As you will see with the pictures this lady took an extreme hit on the driver's side of her vehicle pushing her into the guard rail while flipping the pick-up truck right next to her. The two crews working together got the posts cut on both sides and then removed the entire roof to allow the medical team to work on packaging the patient for transport to the hospital. I have been on a few of these types of accidents and in the old days it was sometimes mass confusion pulling here and banging there but let me tell you something about this operation. It was like a well practiced ballet with everyone having a part to play and they played it very well. O and before I forget yes they did have a protective line which they pulled off their Engine 73 which arrived right after there squad. It made me proud to stand back and watch both departments work so well together. The citizens of St. Mary's County should feel very comfortable knowing that when the situation arises that these professionals will be there to assist them whatever the emergency happens to be. http://www.bdvfd.org/index.cfm?fs=news.newsView&News_ID=838 At 1130 hours Company 7, EMS Stations 79, 39, and the Medic Unit were alerted to the intersection of Three Notch Road and Airport View Drive for a Motor Vehicle Accident with the report of a vehicle overturned and on fire. Rescue Squad 7 responded with 6 under the direction of Captain Brady, R. as well as Chief 7A (D. Insley). Squad 7 arrived on location at 1134 hours confirming two vehicles heavy entrapment, and at that time Captain 7 established the Three Notch Road Command. The crew from Squad 7 went to work stabilizing both vehicles involved and preparing for extrication. Chief 7A arrived moments later assuming the Three Notch Road Command and assigning Captain 7 as the Rescue Group Supervisor. Engine 73 (Lt. Tenaglia) arrived moments later along with multiple EMS units and assisted the Squad Crew with extricating the single subject from the vehicle. The crew removed both the driver and rear driver door, also removing the 'B' Post and taking the roof off the vehicle. Squad 3 arrived on the scene in the process as they were dispatched due to the reported entrapment and assisted the crew from 7 in taking the roof. All crews worked diligently to extricate the subject safely as they were then transported to the hanger where Trooper 7 flew them to Prince Georges Hospital.
