Christmas Party at Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Bay District, Company 9 : On November 30, 2007 the members of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department had their First Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Winter Wonderland at Station 3 in Lexington Park. It was for all the citizens of St. Mary's County and there were people from every section of the County there. The events of the night were coordinated by Fire Prevention Chairman Lauren Johnson and the Chairman of the Associates, Melissa Gould. I don't think any of us thought we would have the crowd that we had but there were hundreds of men, women, and plenty of kids who came by to see Santa, ride the firetrucks, play games, face painting and numerous other things during the evening. They had a moon bounce that was donated by our own Safety Officer Anthony Thomas and there was a magic show along with great Christmas music playing the whole evening. There were hot-dogs, soda's, and chips for sale and free cookies for everyone along with free popcorn. Thanks again to Mr. Thomas for bringing his big popcorn popper from his store. At 6:30 p.m. Santa, Dan Raley (County Commissioner), Bob Braddock (President) and Wayne Johnson (Fire Chief) threw the switch and lit up our new tree. There was a long, long, line all night for the kids to get there picture taken with Santa but the line was as long for kids and there parents waiting for a firetruck ride. They made sure that every person who wanted a ride on a firetruck got one even though we ran over the time that we had planned for the party. They could not have done it without the help of our brother firemen and there equipment from their stations. A big thanks to Leonardtown (Co. 1) Mechanicsville (Co.2) Ridge (Co.4) and Seventh District (Co.5) and we can't forget the members of the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad who had a duty ambulance at the station along with one on standby. Before the night was over we were all singing along with the music and it was so beautiful and festive in the engine bays that it made you stop and think about all that we have to be grateful for in this holiday season. Firefighter Games At The Hollywood Fire Department in Southern Maryland : The 60th Annual Southern Maryland Fire Association's Convention was held on May 6th, Local departments join with other departments for a day of relaxation and fun. Members participate in many different games including The Battle of the Buckets, The Fire Brigade, Tug of War and EMS Skills. It was held at the Hollywood Vol. Fire Dept carnival lot.
