7/1/2008 Second Working House Fire of the Day : On July 1, 2008 at 2147 hours the Volunteers from Bay District, Hollywood and 7th District fire departments were alerted to 22233 Cosmos Drive for a vehicle fire that had extended to a house. Engine 92(FF. Post), Engine 32(FF. Bruner), Truck Company 3(FF. Nelson) along with Chief 3 and Chief 3A responded within a minute of dispatch with 15 volunteers. Engine 92 arrived and laid in a supply line from the intersection of Heather St. and Cosmos Ct and advised of a vehicle fire extending into a 2 story ordinary construction single family home with fire showing from the garage. Chief 3A arrived next and established the "Cosmos Court Command" advising the next arriving (Engine 32) to pick up Engine 92's line and the 1st Special Service (Truck 3) to take position on Side "A". Chief 3(Johnson) then arrived and Command was transferred over to him giving Chief 3A operations. The Crews worked together to make quick work of the fire bringing the fire under control within 15 minutes. Engine 74(Chief 7A) and Truck Company 7(Chief 7) arrived and assisted in further investigating for extension, throwing ladders, and assisting with a Primary and Secondary Search. After wetting down some hotspots in the attic of the garage, venting the house and garage and some overhaul all units were then placed in service and command was terminated. Chief 3 held the "Cosmos Court Command", Chief 3A held the operations and Lt. 9(M. Warren) held the Interior Operations. All units Returned to quarters at 2334 hours. 

While units operated on the Fire ground Engine 73(Capt. Riley) filled in at Station 9 and Both Station 3 and Station 7 held additional crews in station just in case something else should come out.

7/1/2008 First Working House Fire of the Day (ARSON) : On 7/1/08 @ 2:47 hours, Communications dispatched Bay District Volunteers to BOX 3-07 21570 Columbia Street for a 'House on fire'. Engine 32 and Truck 3 along with Chief 3A with a total of 13 personnel were on the road in less than 2 minutes. A minute after the initial dispatch Companies 9 and Company 5 were added due to Communications receiving numerous calls indicating a working house fire. Engine 92, 33, 91 along with Chief 3 and 9B responded on the call with 16 personnel. At 2:52 hours, Chief 3A (Joe Gould) arrived on the scene side A of a two Story Residence with Fire through the roof establishing the Columbia Street Command and then requested the Second Alarm to be dispatched. At 2:54 hours, Engine 32 under the direction of Lieutenant 3 (David Carroll) arrived on the scene and took their own hydrant connection just past the residence and the crew stretched a 2 ½" and 1 ¾" hand lines to side A of the structure. At 2:54 hours Truck 3 under the direction of Sergeant 3 (Steve Stockwell) arrived to side A of the structure where Command advised them to set up the Aerial for master stream operations and Engine 132 staged just past Engine 32 where the crew assisted with pulling a Back Up line off of Engine 32. Engine 92 under the direction of acting officer (Richard Starr) arrived minutes later and laid a secondary water supply from Constellation Street back to the Fireground where they supplied Engine 33 which was supplying Truck Company 3. Engine 43 completed the Water Supply for Engine 92 at the hydrant. The engine crews made quick work on the fire knocking the fire down with the master stream device along with multiple handlines in operation at the same time within a matter of minutes. Truck 7 arrived and started opening up the structure along with Truck 3 along with doing a primary and secondary searches on parts of the house that they were able to get too. At 0331 hours Chief 3 advised that the fire was under control and he would be holding all units for overhaul operations. Once everything was complete Chief 3 advised at 0513 hours that Command was terminated and that all units could return to quarters. Chief 3(Johnson) held the "Columbia St." Command and Chief 3A(Gould), Chief 9B(Jones) held the operations.

6/14/2008 St. Georges Catholic Church for the Building Fire : On June 14, 2008 at 2140 hours the Volunteers from Valley lee, Bay District and Leonardtown were alerted to St. Georges Catholic Church for the Building Fire. Engine 33 (Capt. Pennington) and Truck 3(FF. Bruner) responded with a total staffing of 12 volunteers within seconds of dispatch. Units from Company 6 arrived on the scene at 2146 hours and Chief 6 (Crowder) advised of fire through the roof from the back part of the church. Engine 91 (Lt. Warren) and Water Supply 5 were added to the call as part of the Working Fire Dispatch Engine 61, Engine 62, and Engine 63 all arrived and started investigating further and noticed that a propane line along the roofline had been struck by lightning. The crew from Engine 61 pulled a 1.75" line and extinguished the hot spots after the gas was secured. Engine 33 and the Truck arrived and assisted Company 6 with further investigation and helped them wrap everything up. Chief 6 (Crowder) held the command of the incident. All units from Bay District were clear the scene at 2216 hours.

6/5/2008 Single Family Dwelling Fire in Hermanville : At 0047 hours Station 3, Station 9, and Truck 7 were dispatched to 47645 Brookstone Way in Hermanville for the report of a house fire, fire in the attic. Truck 7, available in Station 3's area cleared a service call and responded on the dispatch. Engine 33, Chief 3, and Truck 7 arrived on the scene at 0053 hours to find a 2 story single family dwelling with fire showing from the roof area. Truck 7 took position on side "A" in the front lawn and started setting up for an attack. Chief 3 established command and advised Truck 7's crew to set up for ladder pipe operations. Due to the area having no hydrants, several additional Tankers were added to the call.

4/3/2008 Working House Fire on North Patuxent Beach Road : Just minutes past 1100 hours Company 9, 83 (Solomon's), 7, Water Supply 5, Tower 9, and EMS Station 79 were dispatched to 24034 North Patuxent Beach Road for the Working House Fire. Engine 73 (Capt. Tenaglia), and Engine 74 (F/F R. Brady) responded at dispatch with a total of 11 volunteers. Chief 3A was the first to arrive @ 1115 hours reporting heavy fire. Engine 73 arrived next as the first due Engine Company and advanced a 200 foot 1 3/4 line into the structure. Engine 74, Engine 91, and Solomon's Engine 31 all arrived on the scene next advancing a second line into the structure, and a third line was placed on a propane tank that was venting on side Charlie of the residence. Engine 91's crew stood by cooling the 55 gallon tank venting. Chief 7A arrived on the scene at this time and was given interior operations of the incident. At 1121 hours Command asked communications for the second alarm for pumper tankers on the incident. Crews from Hollywood and Solomon's made an aggressive attack on the fire extinguishing it quickly and completing the primary search with negative results. The crew from Engine 73 did locate the homeowners dog which was still alive, the firefighters brought the dog to the homeowner which was luckily in good condition.

3/28/2008 Brush/Woods Fire in Hollywood at St. john's & Brown Rd. : At 13:43 hours, Company 1 was alerted for a brush fire at 42850 St. John's road. Brush 1 responded with Chief 1A (A. Bell) minutes after dispatch and arrived on the scene to discover a working woods fire. Jeep 1 (Lt. Holmes) arrived seconds after and assisted brush 1 with trying to contain the fire. Engine 14 (Lt. Mattingly) arrived minutes later and would supply additional water to the brush units operating on the scene. Chief 1A advised he would need two additional company's dispatched along with Forestry and would also be establishing the command. Brush 7, Jeep 7, and Brush 9 later arrived on the scene to assist Leonardtown with containing the fire to a perimeter and wetting down the entire area exposed to the fire. Engine 74 was advised by Chief 1A to use their deck gun and extinguish the large pile of brush burning, which ignited the surrounding area. Engine 74, along with the forestry service units also assisted with supplying the brush units. Approximately 6500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze. Cheif 1A did one last perimeter check and advised all units were in service when ready and the command would be terminated. Units cleared the scene while Forestry remained on the scene for an evaluation. Company 1's units were in quarters at 15:28.

3/21/2008 Hollywood Working House Fire : At 1533 hours Company 7, 1, Truck 7, and EMS Station 79 were alerted to 25210 Secretariate Drive for the reported house on fire. Chief 7 and Engine 73 responded. Fire board advised them that they were taking numerous calls reporting fire through the roof. Chief 7 then started the Working Fire dispatch on the call, adding Company 9 and Water Supply 5. Chief 7 was first to arrive on the scene at 1539 hours with a corrected address of 25188 Secretariate Drive, reporting he was on side alpha with a one story wood frame dwelling on a basement and heavy fire showing. Chief 7 at that time established the Hollywood Command and advised fireboard that all subjects were out of the structure and accounted for.

3/21/2008 Ridge Working Abandoned House Fire : On March 21st at 1901 hours Bay District Companies 3/9, Ridge VFD and NAS Webster Field Firefighters were dispatched for a "Working" fire in the area of 13661 Three Notch Rd. E-33 (LT-3 D. Carroll), E-91 (SGT-9B J. Hare) responded within seconds of dispatch and Truck 3 moments later. Upon responding E-33 crews could see heavy smoke from Hermanville confirming a working incident. C-4 (F. Raley) arrived on scene with a fully involved structure and it was determined that a defensive (outside) attack would be used.

3/16/2008 Controlled Burn in Valley Lee, MD : In the early morning hours on March 16, 2008, 2nd District VFD held a Training Burn. Bay District and Leonardtown were among the invitee's to the burn. C-3A and 4 firefighters from Companies 3 & 9 attended the drill bringing down Engine 91. Training Burns are vital to the Volunteers and gives them a chance to use the abilities they train for on a realistic level. As there are fewer and fewer fires due in part to, a better awareness of the public, smoke detectors and sprinkler suppression systems. In addition working with different fire companies also assists in smoother communication on large incidents when more than one fire department is involved.

3/3/2008 Working Trailer Fire in Lexington Park : On March 3, 2008 at 1920 hours a house fire was dispatched in the area of 21465 Sydney Dr. with possible fire from the rear of the building. C-3, E-33, E-32, T-3 and SQ-3 all responded from California. Upon C-3's arrival it was determined that the house was on fire and a working fire was dispatched bringing E-92 and E-134. E-33 (FF T. Blazer) arrived on scene pulling a 1.75" line to the front door quickly extinguishing the fire that was contained to the kitchen. E-32 (FF T. Eno), T-3 (FF R. Balderson) and SQ-3 (LT-3 D. Carroll) arrived as crews checked for extension also performing salvage and overhaul while water supply was set up. The Maryland State Fire Marshalls Office was also called to the scene for investigative purposes. Crews remained on scene for approximately 2 hours; C-3 held Command; C-3A held Operations and all units returned to service following clean up efforts. A big thanks to the Associates for bringing much needed rehab to the scene.

2/11/2008 Excavator Fire at Construction Site in Hollywood, MD : On February 11, 2008 at 1710 hours Station 9 was alerted to a construction site all the way at the end of Wildwood Parkway where the new Evergreen Elementary School will be built. Engine 91 (FF. R. Starr), along with Chief 9B responded within a minute of dispatch with 4 volunteers and arrived on the scene and advised of a front end loader with an engine compartment off. The crews advance a 1.75" line to the equipment and began extinguishing the fire. Chief 9B arrived and advised Communications to start the Next Due Tanker just for precautions. Engine 74 responded with 4 and once they arrived they assisted Engine 91's crew with some extinguishment. The crews operated on the scene for just under an hour.

2/10/2008 Working Trailer Fire with Extension to 2 vehicles and the Surrounding Woods : At 1718 hours on February 10, 2008 at 47207 Lincoln Ave a working trailer fire was reported. E-32 Sgt D. Dean (diverted from a brush fire in Co. 13's first due), C-3 (W. Johnson) and C-3A (J. Gould) responded within seconds of the dispatch. Upon arrival C-3 confirmed a working trailer fire with extension into the wooded area behind the "fully involved" abandoned trailer and multiple exposures to Side "B", "C" and "D" not including the 2 vehicles also exposed. C-3A assumed Operations as E-32 arrived on the scene dropping a 3" Supply Line. C-3A requested to Command an additional set of Pumper-Tankers and eventually requesting Brush Units to the scene. T-3 (C-3B J. Evans) and E-91 (Sgt. Hare) responded within minutes of dispatch. E-91 picked up E-32's water supply as crews from E-32, E-91 and T-3 pull long lines or extended lines as the brush fire extended outward. E-63 and E-33 quickly arrived and started "tanker shuttles" providing constant water to E-32 throughout the duration of the fire. C-6 (T. Crowder), E-61, E-73 also arrived on scene to cut-off any extension from traveling to the near-by trailers and homes. Brush Units from Co. 1, Co. 4, Co. 7, Co. 3 and Co. 83 (Solomon's) arrived on scene assisted in the fast moving fire. The fire was under control within an hour and Units operated on the scene for 2.5hrs as C-3 held the "Lincoln Ave. Command".

1/30/2008 Shed Fire in Park Hall : At 12:56 pm units from Bay District and Valley Lee were dispatched for a working shed fire at 18601 Point Lookout Road in Park Hall. Units arrived on the scene with a confirmed working fire. Engine 63 arrived on the scene and assisted with water supply operations. Units operated on the scene for just over an hour.

1/28/2008 Working Trailer Fire in Calvert County : At 1909 Monday, January 28, 2008 units from SVRSFD were alerted to a working mobile home fire on Coster Road.  As Assistant Fire Chief Rogers (Chief 3A) approached the scene he witnessed a large column of smoke and the glow from the fire.  Chief 3A arrived on location to find a mobile home with heavy fire extending to a nearby shed, at this time a working fire dispatch was requested.

1/8/2008 Working House Fire in Clements : On Tuesday morning Stations 7, 5, 1, 2, and 59 were alerted to a working structure fire at 23465 Bushwood Road. Fireboard advised that they had received calls from Dynard Elementary School that a house across the street was on fire. As units were responding, more calls were received confirming it was a working fire.
