8/11/2008 Ryan Patrick Baumann, Sgt. USA was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery : Photos from the day southern Maryland pulled together on August 11th, 2008 to honor Ryan Patrick Baumann.
Sgt. Baumann was a US Army Sergeant that was killed in Afghanistan August 1st from an IED.
He was supposed to marry his fiancé in January 2009.

7/26/2008 Hair Cuts for Hunter Dean Scott : On July 26, 2008 friends and firefighters from station 3 and 9 along with members from Hollywood, Ridge, Second District, Naval Air Patuxent River and members of the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad converged on Toby's barbershop in Lexington Park to show their support for little Hunter Scott, 4 years old, who recently had a brain tumor removed and is currently undergoing radiation and chemo treatments in Children's hospital in Washington D.C. This young fellow is the nephew of one of our own, firefighter and driver Mike George stationed out of company 9. Mike is also one of St. Mary's finest working with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's department and there were many of his fellow deputy's also there in support of Mike and his nephew.

7/19/2008 Benefit for Hunter Dean Scott : people showed up by the hundreds to show their support for Hunter Dean Scott, a sweet and precocious four-year-old boy who was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Hunter recently underwent extensive brain surgery to remove a massive tumor that was encasing his brain and is faced with months of chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer.
"It was unbelievable the community response we received," said Dawn Barrett, a family member who helped organize the event. 
The event raised $40,000, most of which came from proceeds at the door. About $4,000 was raised during the silent auction, and $1,248 was raised during the 50/50 raffle. The winner of the raffle, Corinna Jaffe, was given $674, and gave half that back to Hunter. 
The day's events included a 50/50 raffle, Silent Auction, Magic Show, Fantasy Face Painting, a moon bounce and DJ.

7/2/2008 Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic on the Square in Leonardtown : For two hours on Tuesday, July 2, in Leonardtown Square in the heart of the historic county seat, the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic presented an exciting brand of patriotic music, classical, swing favorites, show tunes and more. 

More than 250 onlookers were treated to fascinating programs, which had something to please everyone, including toe-tapping marches, a musical tribute honoring America’s servicemen and women and a heart-wrenching performance of John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen; a dramatic ballad set to the words of Ret. General Colin Powell and narrated by MSgt. James Yoder.

6/28/2008 Karaoke for Hospice at the FOP#7 in St. Mary's County, MD : The 14th Annual Karaoke for Hospice was held on Saturday. They raised a great deal of money for the charitable organization.
Funds were raised with a silent auction, door prize raffle, and selling 200, 50/50 raffle tickets at $100. each. The audience was completely taken by surprise when the 50/50 winner, Eagle Systems CEO, Don Peeling, via company representative, won and turned the entire $10,000 back to the Hospice House.

4/26/2008 - 30th Annual Southern Maryland Celtic Festival 2008 : April 26, 2008 marks the 30th year for the oldest Celtic celebration in Maryland. The festival is scheduled on the last Saturday of April every year from 10 AM to 6 PM Rain or Shine on the 560-acre Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum. 
Throwing the Stone, Tossing the Caber, Throwing the Weight-distance, Tossing the Sheaf, Tossing Weights -height, Tossing light and heavy Hammers are the Athletic Competitions. Men's and Women's teams from PAX River were also on hand for Rugby Games.

Rally for the Jena Six at Freedom Monument in Lexington Park 9-20-2007 : On September 20, 2007, 6:00 PM the Local NAACP and Other Local Organizations held a Candle Vigil in support of the Jena 6 at Freedom Park on the corner of Rte. 235 & Tulagi Place(next to the Three Notch Theater) in Lexington Park Maryland. Over 300 people attended.

They were holding this Vigil to raise awareness and let our young people know that racism still exists. They are outraged and at the same time saddened by the situation in Jena, Louisiana.
